About the Controller Role:

My Code is looking for a Controller to join our Finance team. The Controller role will be critical as we continue to grow organically and through acquisition. Reporting into the VP of Finance, the Controller will be an integral part of the department and will direct and manage the overall accounting operations of the Company and be responsible for producing both standard and ad hoc financial reports. In this role, you will oversee the close process as well as assess the status of current systems, procedures and policies, making recommendations where needed and implementing upgrades or changes as appropriate to the Company’s stage of development.

This position is a remote first opportunity and must support PST business hours.

Role Responsibilities:

Leadership of Accounting Team

  • Assume responsibility and accountability for the Accounting team, with responsibilities in financial reporting including integration and consolidation
  • Develop the Accounting team, and the capabilities of the team through direct leadership, coaching and mentoring
  • Implement project-based accounting controls, policies, and processes
  • Hands-on leadership, guidance, and accountability for all project/job cost accounting – as the business grows

Strategic and Tactical Accounting; Reporting

  • Actively engage in the Company’s annual operating and budgeting plan process
  • Manage monthly close process and creation of monthly financial statements; with monthly, quarterly, annual, and ad-hoc reporting to the CFO and other key stakeholders
  • Prepare accurate, timely, systematic, and ad hoc reports and analysis for executive and functional leadership review as needed
  • Partner with the VP of Finance on the audit process, with timely reporting to the CFO
  • Actively collaborate with accounting, taxation, legal, and other US domestic and international key business advisors and partners as appropriate

Systems, Controls, Policies, Processes, and Best Practices

  • Assess and establish finance and accounting infrastructure to support expansion of US domestic and international business operations
  • Ensure existing financial systems, processes and controls maintain pace with our rapidly expanding company and lines of business
  • Identify and implement stage-appropriate and scalable systems, controls, policies, processes, and best practices
  • Other duties as directed or required

Engagement work with Key Stakeholders

  • Build and develop a high-performance accounting team responsive to the needs of the growing organization and key stakeholders as well as the tools and infrastructure required to make this happen
  • Design, develop, and implement expanded management and financial reporting for all business units
  • Collaborate with key business partners as required, providing accurate and timely data, reporting, and analysis as needed – i.e. HR, external auditors, outside legal counsel and executive leadership
  • Develop timely financials to compare against the operating plan and drive initiates as needed to analyzing expenses and revenue growth initiatives.

Minimum Qualifications

  • BA/BS in Accounting or Finance, or closely related field
  • Solid GAAP knowledge and experience
  • 10+ years of directly related work experience in similar industry; with at least the last 2 years in a corporate Asst Controller or Controller position
  • Proven experience with several accounting systems
  • Experienced in Excel and financial consolidation
  • Leadership – demonstrated ability to lead and mentor a team
  • Demonstrated critical-thinking and analytical skills
  • Proven financial system and accounting team management skills
  • High-energy level; self-motivated; positive “can-do attitude”
  • Must show accountability, be a team player and operate with a sense of urgency
  • Demonstrate the highest level of personal ethics and professional integrity
  • Demonstrated ability to take on multiple projects/tasks and be great problem solver

Preferred Qualifications

  • International accounting experience
  • Experience working in a fast pace, start-up, high-growth environment
  • Great communication and organization skills
  • Current CPA certification
