DIVERSE POLITICAL TRACKER
Black American’s Early Impressions of Trump
This deep dive into Black American voter sentiment builds on My Code’s Wave 12 Multicultural Political Tracker—released earlier this spring—which surveyed more than 3,200 voters across AANHPI, Black, Hispanic, LGBTQIA+, and women segments. This newly released segment zeroes in on Black voter attitudes, providing timely insights into approval ratings, policy engagement, and the issues most likely to shape voter behavior heading into 2026. Our findings provide timely insights not only for campaigns and media, but for anyone committed to serving and engaging Black communities with integrity and nuance.
This report offers one of the clearest snapshots to date of how Black communities are interpreting the Trump administration’s recent actions, rhetoric, and priorities. The data shows widespread disapproval of Trump’s agenda, backlash to attacks on civil rights and DEI, and a growing sense of disconnect between political messaging and the lived realities of Black Americans.
The data suggests that Black Americans are tuned in, but they’re not always being spoken to in ways that reflect their realities, their media habits, or their lived experiences. The gaps in policy awareness and approval aren’t a sign of disengagement. They’re a reflection of missed opportunities. If we want to mobilize this electorate in a meaningful way ahead of the midterm elections in 2026, we need messaging that’s accurate, accessible, and rooted in trust. We need to show up—not just with facts, but with respect, clarity, and cultural relevance.
